Funktion-One Equipment
We are very happy to announce the purchase of our new Funktion-One Resolution sound system. Over the last ten years we have used many types of speaker cabinets from high end manufacturers, but have found Funktion-One to be the best in terms of sound quality and design. We currently have Res 1's, 2's, 4's and F218 subs, so can provide a bespoke sound system for a small party or a large festival, whatever the event.
Funktion-One Resolution 1
The Resolution 1 is a radical loudspeaker which is set to revolutionise the 2-way small box loudspeaker market. Tony Andrews' 30 years pioneering research and development of high efficiency cone mid-range has resulted in a completely new 5 inch loudspeaker (patent pending) which finally eliminates the need for compression drivers with their inherent harshness and distortion. This device, when used in conjunction with a miniaturised, dedicated Axhead-loaded waveguide, smoothly reproduces both the vital mid range and high frequencies with exceptional coherency and detail. Further, instead of stretching the response of a compromised compression driver to (almost) meet an equally stretched and indistinct 12" or 15" low frequency driver at 1 to 2 kHz as in traditional 2-way systems, Funktion One’s new 5"device properly connects with the (outstanding) 12" ported bass driver at 520Hz. The resulting bass is lively and very well defined.
The high efficiency , projection and imaging of the R1 make it hard to imagine that it comes in such a compact and lightweight package. The enclosure shape has a rear recess that can either be used to flush fit a separate passive crossover module (see below) or an amplifier module in a future self powered version. The waveguide can be rotated for use in either vertical or horizontal formats.
Standard cabinet finishes are violet or silver. There are two grill options - a half height punched metal grill which protects the 12" loudspeaker and covers the ports whilst leaving the waveguide fully visible. For those that prefer a more discrete appearance (particularly for theatre and AV applications) we also produce a full height black foam covered metal grill which gives a low profile appearance.
The Resolution 1 is as versatile as its markets are varied and delivers an unprecedented listening experience.
Funktion-One Res 2
This portable 'all in one' system is probably the smallest fully horn loaded enclosure available. The unique combination of compact size, low weight and sonic excellence, make it the ideal choice for an incredibly wide range of applications. It is equally suited for use by discerning musicians and DJs as by leading sound consultants in demanding projects. From small to medium club and pub venues to critical AV and professional sound reinforcement applications, this loudspeaker system resolves the quest for quality, response and level from a small source. The Resolution 2 undoubtedly delivers exceptional sound with a surprising amount of bass for its size.
The Resolution 2 is a full range, 3-way bi-amplified horn loaded enclosure with a passive high frequency crossover. The design incorporates Funktion One's patented Axhead technology and new space saving bass loading. This highly efficient design provides outstanding fidelity across the full frequency range from 45Hz to 17kHz for use both in a mobile or installation environment.
The Resolution 2 consists of a 15" low frequency driver covering the frequency range from 45Hz to 250 Hz, an 8" mid-range driver coupled to a wide dispersion axhead covering the frequency range from 250Hz to 6.5kHz and a 1" high frequency driver covering the frequencies in the range 6.5kHz to 17kHz. It features a well controlled dispersion pattern of 50° horizontal by 25° vertical and is constructed from 15mm birch plywood with large integral handles to the rear of the box at the top and bottom for ease of handling. The wooden enclosure is finished in violet semi-matt texture paint, (optional silver finish available on request), with silver waveguides and features built in attachment points for external flying hardware. Speakon connectors fitted to the rear panel provide input and parallel connections.
There is also a version of the enclosure called the Resolution 2U which features a rotatable mid high waveguide. This allows the enclosure to be deployed in either a left or right handed horizontal orientation, particularly useful in rooms with restricted ceiling height.
Funktion-One Resolution 4
We are proud to present the new Funktion One Resolution 4 system which represents a significant development of previous work by Tony Andrews and his team. The Resolution 4 is the wide dispersion partner to the Resolution 5 system and is perfectly suited to use in medium sized applications with our F-218 or Resolution 18 bass, or as a delay or in-fill cabinet with Resolution 5 systems. As with all Resolution enclosures, clarity, ease of use and beauty are at its heart.
The system is 'people friendly' with superb aesthetics, unprecedented sound quality and efficiency.
The Resolution 4 has a controlled dispersion pattern of 50° horizontal by 25° vertical for almost seemless array implementation. It should be noted that the enclosures should never be used with an inter-cabinet array angle of less than 35°. In standard applications, this means that no more than four Resolution 4s should be used in a single row, giving a combined coverage angle of 160° when used with our standard Res 4 flying grid. (Two and three wide versions are also available). If greater SPL is required over the same coverage angles then Res 5s should be employed.
Resolution 4s are dimensionally identical to the Resolution 5 and Resolution 18 facilitating co-ordinated system use.
The Resolution 4 offers the flexibility of being used in single box applications.
The system truck packs superbly requiring less transport expense.
The enclosure weight is minimised with Funktion One purpose designed Neodymium magnets on all drivers.
A highly effective wheel-board completes the packaging offering full touring protection for the front of the Resolution 4 and also makes transport a dream.
Funktion-One F218
This is Funktion One's renowned bass design, which is the result of an holistic approach, over many years of research and development, into bass loading techniques. The evolved product is highly regarded in professional audio circles for its extreme robustness and large quantities of tight, punchy, well defined bass from a relatively small and very manageable package.
When used with Resolution mid-high systems, the cross-over from the F-218 enclosures to the low mid device stands at just over 100Hz and the ensuing bass delivery is abundant, effortless, deep and precise.
Highest quality Finnish birch ply is used throughout its construction.
Funktion-One XO1 Crossover
The XO-1 features 2 inputs and 6 outputs, each output features crossover filters, 5 band parametric equaliser configurable as high and low shelving filters plus limiter and delay. Full metering is provided for inputs and outputs, with mute and access buttons allowing quick set up and gain adjustment.

Funktion-One/Formula Sound FF 6000
To realise the full potential of Funktion One loudspeaker systems it is of vital importance that everything in the signal path is of equivalent quality to the loudspeakers. Choosing to work with an inadequate mixer can fatally impair the performance of a system and even some of the most used models actually sound terrible. About two years ago we became increasingly frustrated with the lack of audio quality of almost every DJ mixer in the market and resolved to do something about this. We formed a working party of Funktion One sound technicians and DJs to design a layout for a new mixer and then worked in collaboration with Formula Sound to produce the FF6000 which delivers a revolutionary combination of DJ friendliness and stunning sound quality.
Below are some exaples of the configurations we can offer, as dependant on the size of the room or space, and amount of people, dispersions and spl needed from the boxes will change due to these factors.
